Becoming a Member of the Croydon Bach Choir
We are always delighted to receive membership applications from good singers in time for the start of a new term. We currently have vacancies in all voice parts. Previous choral singing experience is an advantage, but an accurate singing voice with a pleasant tone quality, the appropriate voice-part vocal range, a good musical ear, a secure sense of rhythm and good score-reading skills are more important.
Although we rehearse in a church, and most of our concerts also take place in churches, we are a classical choral society open to all good singers rather than a church choir and we have no religious affiliations; however, our repertoire, in common with that of most choral societies, includes both sacred and secular works.
Members are expected to make a commitment to attend rehearsals regularly and to perform at all our main concerts. We require that members take individual responsibility to ensure they thoroughly learn their parts in the works we are performing - undertaking additional private study as necessary - so that they are able to take part in our concerts confidently and to make a positive contribution to the standard of the choir.
We offer prospective members a trial period of one full term with a reduced subscription. During this term, their progress and aptitude will be monitored by experienced choir members in their voice part. From time to time, the Music Director may assess members individually.
