Music Director

Tim Horton was born in 1970 and received his musical education as a Music Scholar at Sevenoaks School, and as Organ Scholar at Jesus College, Cambridge, where he studied for a degree in Music at the University of Cambridge. This was followed by appointments at Sheffield Cathedral, Abbots Bromley School and the Royal Military Chapel (Guards’ Chapel) along with roles within schools, including as Director of Music at The Hall, Hampstead and St Piran's School, Maidenhead, and as Headmaster at Old Palace of John Whitgift Prep School, Croydon and of Stratford Preparatory School, Warwickshire.

Tim now combines private teaching with the role of Director of Music at His Majesty’s Chapel Royal, London, and as Music Director of the Croydon Bach Choir, a role he has held since nearly 2001.

Tim has given recitals in many parts of the world, including in Europe, Canada and South Africa. He has accompanied several international soloists, such as Katherine Jenkins, Nicola Benedetti, Alison Balsom and Dame Anne Murray, as well as playing solo organ performance of Bach's epic Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor for a series of Gala Ballet performances at Sadler's Wells, with Igor Zelensky and Darcey Bussell, which formed part of her farewell season. As a choral conductor, Tim has led the music for many important state and public occasions, including in October 2025 when, in his role at His Majesty’s Chapel Royal, Tim was the Director of Music for the historic state visit of Their Majesties King Charles and Queen Camilla to meet His Holiness Pope Leo XIV, conducting the choirs for services at the Sistine Chapel and the Papal Basilica of Saint Paul Outside the Walls.
