Tim Horton

Music Director

Tim Horton was born in 1970 and received his musical education as a Music Scholar at Sevenoaks School, and as Organ Scholar at Jesus College, Cambridge, where he studied for a degree in Music at the University of Cambridge. This was followed by appointments at Sheffield Cathedral, Abbots Bromley School and the Royal Military Chapel (Guards' Chapel) along with roles within schools, including as Director of Music at The Hall, Hampstead, and St Piran's School, Maidenhead, and as Headmaster at Old Palace of John Whitgift Prep School, Croydon, and at Stratford Preparatory School, Warwickshire. Tim now combines private coaching and teaching with the role of Acting Director of Music at His Majesty's Chapel Royal, London. He has given recitals in many parts of the world, including in Europe, Canada and South Africa. He has accompanied several international soloists, including Katherine Jenkins, Nicola Benedetti, Alison Balsom and Dame Anne Murray, as well as playing solo organ performance of the epic Bach Passacaglia and Fugue in C minor for a series of Gala Ballet performances at Sadler's Wells, with Igor Zelensky and Darcey Bussell, which formed part of her farewell season. As a choral conductor, Tim has led the music for many important state occasions. His relationship with the Croydon Bach Choir began in 1999 as accompanist, before taking over as Music Director between 2001 and 2019. He was delighted to return to his role in 2021.
